Each year brings new challenges and innovations to our everyday life. It already became a good tradition, to sum up, the previous year and make the forecast for the upcoming future. In this article, we are going to analyze trends, which are going to run the IT world in 2019.

Self-driving cars and machines

Robots, drones, self-driving cars, and all the machines which use artificial intelligence are becoming more popular day by day. The type of automatization, run by artificial intelligence, is something different than we used to see before. Some time ago, automatization was something, strictly prescribed by the software engineers, robots were behaving only in the way, they were taught to. While today, since artificial intelligence came into our lives, machines are behaving in a more smart way. Sometimes, they are even more intelligent than people. So, the first trend of the year is not just self-driving machines, those are machines with artificial intelligence.

Due to the fact that self-managed devices are spreading more and more, we can expect a transition from separate self-managed devices to whole groups of smart machines. We can see a situation, when many devices work together, without human intervention. For example, if a drone finds a large field during the time of harvest, it could send a self-managing combine harvester to the field. Also, a very effective solution would be to use a self-driving car to transport already packaged goods to the desired area, robots and drones can also take part in the delivery of goods to specific recipients.

Augmented Analytics

Augmented analytics is a field of artificial intelligence, which consists of machine learning, used for automation of business processes, together with spreading business information. The tools of augmented analytics are quickly spread being a key component in the data preparation, analytics, business management, building processes, and data mining platforms.

Robotized enlarged examination will likewise be inserted in a corporate application for various administrations: financial, management, HR, marketing, procurement, and asset management. That will help in the enhancement of choices and moves, taken by all representatives inside the different company areas. They say, until 2020, associations will most likely depend on such new examiners to cooperate with the lack of information examination and machine learning experts, brought by the lack of such pros and the surprising expense of their work.

Software development with the use of artificial intelligence

The market is rapidly migrating from the interaction between application developers and professional analysts during the technological development process, to the moment when a software developer can act independently, using previously developed algorithms and models, offered as a service. Increasingly, software developers can turn to an ecosystem of ready-made developments, getting ready-made blocks and tools for integrating the functionality of artificial intelligence in the developed solution. Another level of capabilities in the software development with the help of artificial intelligence in particular, for automating various data mining functions, developing and testing applications. By 2022, at least 40% of new application projects will be performed with artificial intelligence mainly.

Intelligent edge technologies

Edge innovations are alluding to the terminal gadgets, utilized by individuals, or inserted in the objects of our general surroundings. By edge, is implied a topology of the computational procedure, when data is handled, together with information accumulation and conveyance, are actualized as close as possible to these gadgets. Such a model means to make information handling nearby, to lessen the traffic of information, transmitted over the system and postponements accordingly.

In the close future, the development of edge technologies will be contributed to the IoT and the need to carry out processing closer to the devices, rather than on a centralized cloud server. However, there is no need to deploy a new architecture, cloud technologies and edge data processing will be evolved as a complementary model. The executives of cloud administrations will be actualized as an incorporated administration, on the focal servers as well as on circulated servers and edge gadgets themselves.

Throughout the following five years, specialized chips for the implementation of artificial intelligence functionality, along with more computing power, data storage resources, and other advanced features, will be used on an ever wider range of peripheral devices. Growing peripheral data processing environment will have more reliable feedback from the central server level. 5G will reduce the delay, increase the bandwidth and (which is very important for edge calculations) will significantly increase the spatial density of nodes (the number of boundary devices per square kilometer).

Immersive technologies

Automatic communication platforms are changing the current way a person interacts with the digital world. Virtual (VR), augmented (AR) and hybrid (mixed) reality (MR) technologies are changing the very perception of the digital world. This parallel change in models of perception and interaction leads to the construction of a comprehensive immersive interface of the future.

Most obviously, over time we will move from individual devices and fragmented user interface (UI) technologies to multi-channel and multi-modal interaction. Such a multi-modal interface will connect people with the digital world through the hundreds of edge devices that surround them, including familiar computer devices, wearable electronics, cars, environmental sensors, and home appliances. This multimodal environment will create such a perception, where the space around us will be perceived in a complex, unlike today’s individual devices. Truly, the entire environment will become one computer.

The blockchain is on top for the last few years, and it definitely not going to go down soon. Blockchain – a distributed digital registry for storing transaction records – promises to drastically change entire industries, providing trust and transparency, which will reduce friction within business ecosystems. Potentially it is going to reduce costs, transaction settlement times and improve financial transactions.Such a centralized model of trust introduces delays and unnecessary expenses (commissions, fees, and changes in the value of money) to transactions. The blockchain provides an alternative model of trust, eliminating the need for central authorities to arbitrate transactions.

Many blockchain initiatives are not implementing all the attributes of this technology, for example, a highly distributed database. These inspired solutions are positioned as a means to achieve operational efficiency by automating business processes or by digitizing records. They can enhance information sharing with partner organizations, as well as improve the ability to track physical and digital assets. However, these approaches do not possess the revolutionary power of the true blockchain and can increase the “binding” to the blockchain technology provider. Organizations that choose this path should understand the limitations and be ready to switch to full blockchain solutions over time. They should also understand that the same results can be achieved with a more efficient and fine-tuned use of existing technologies other than the blockchain.

Smart Spaces

The “smart space” is the physical or digital environment where people and systems, use IT tools, interact in an increasingly open, interconnected, coordinated and intelligent ecosystem. Many elements — people, processes, services, and devices are combined in intellectual space, to create more interpenetrating, interactive, and automated interactions for a target group of people and industry scenarios.

This trend has been forming for some time already around such areas as smart cities, smart home, and intelligent enterprises. We believe that the market is entering a period of accelerated development of high-grade intellectual spaces, when technology will become an integral part of our daily life, and will directly relate to employees, customers, consumers, members of some communities or just citizens.

Digital ethics and personal data

Digital ethics and respect for privacy rights are a growing concern for individuals, organizations, and authorities. People are increasingly worried about how their personal data is used by organizations, in the public and private sector. Also, a negative reaction of society will increase for those organizations which do not solve these issues now. Any discussion regarding the use of personal information should stem from the broader topic of digital ethics and the trust of customers, partners and employees.

Although the security of personal data is fundamental components in building trust, is actually more than just these components. Ultimately, an organization’s position on personal space should flow from its position in the wider area of ethics and trust. The transition from simply the preservation of personal information to ethics takes the conversation beyond the banal “Do we abide by the law?” To the only correct one: “Do we do what we need?”.
